Your Capabilities and Credentials
Required:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in natural areas management including herbicide applications, cutting / mowing, controlled burning, and native planting.
- Solid knowledge of upper Midwest native and invasive species, plant identification, natural areas, and ecology.
- National Wildfire Coordinating Group Wildland Fire Intro (S-130 / S-190 / L-180).
- Ability to operate and conduct routine preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment and tools that includes light and heavy-duty trucks and trailers, chainsaws / brushsaws, backpack herbicide sprayers, UTVs / ATVs, and tractors.
- Ability to read and interpret herbicide labels and Safety Data Sheets and apply herbicides following label instructions and safety procedures.
- Positive safety-first attitude.
- Effective communicator and a collaborative attitude.
- Organized and capable of managing staff and resources to stay within project budgets and timelines.
- Commitment to producing high quality in-field work products.
- Ability to walk 4-6 miles per day over rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs.
- A good driving record and valid state driver's license.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to travel regularly during field season.
- Ability to obtain Kansas, Missouri Pesticide Applicators licenses within one month.
Preferred:
- 3-5 years of experience conducting and leading common ecosystem restoration practices.
- National Wildfire Coordinating Group Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (S-290).
- ATV / UTV and chainsaw safety training.
- Valid Class A commercial driver's license.
- Previous experience utilizing iPads, ESRI and ArcGIS -based software, and must be comfortable with computers, tablets, and GPS units.
- Experience conducting natural areas inventory, monitoring, assessment, mapping, and report development.
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in a natural resources, ecology, or related biological field, or an associates degree in environmental science with 3 years of experience.
