Your Opportunity
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be functioning as the Business Center’s Electrical SME, designated chief reviewer/approver, and PE / signatory for electrical projects requiring stamping. You will provide high-level review/oversight of electrical designs for the group, as well as consult/support/lead on the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for “larger” power systems (generally 480 V up to 34.5 KV Electrical Equipment) on projects where that is required, in all cases verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, deliverable preparation, client meetings, and field support for information gathering, start-up and commissioning.

Reporting Relationships
This role will report internally to the electrical group manager but will have other “soft” lines of reporting to the project managers for projects that you are working on. Although you will not have any direct reports, you will be responsible for overseeing other team members on project-related activities.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for medium-to-large projects of high complexity.
- Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers “large” (Typically from 480 V to 34.5 KV) electrical equipment and systems.
- Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Utilizes BIM technologies in development of 3D models of building’s electrical systems and provides markups for CAD designers.
- Prepares and revises documentation in various electrical phases including but not limited to, plan drawings, electrical equipment lists, cable schedules.
- Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Participates in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
- Assists with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
- Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
- Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Utilizes advanced techniques for the analysis of specialized building electrical elements.
- Participates in constructability review.
- Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
- Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the electrical group.
- Works on multiple projects.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of National Electrical Code and applicable building and energy codes, NFPA and IEEE standards, as well as knowledge of electrical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards, to be able to:
- Populate a power, instrument and communications cable schedule, including sizing conduits, wires and cables.
- Size and specify equipment such as PDPs, LV and MV MCCs, LV and MV switchgear, transformers, and associated overcurrent protection devices.
- Develop LV and MV single line and three-line diagrams, identifying/specifying all the relaying devices and connections.
- Power system studies in SKM Powertools for arc flash analysis, coordination studies, equipment evaluations, etc., and hence provide recommended OCPD sizing and settings to optimize system performance.
- Lay out electrical rooms, providing required working clearances and access.
- Work with bus duct manufacturers to design required bus duct assemblies.
- Write contractor scope of work summary documents.
- Populate a power, instrument and communications cable schedule, including sizing conduits, wires and cables.
- General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Presentation and interview skills are preferred.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ideal applicant would have experience with at least some of: SKM Power Tools and/or Electrical modeling software packages, Autodesk Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu, basic understanding of databases and data structures to manage large-data by leveraging tools such as Smart PID or other engineering databases.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering
- Minimum of 15 years of experience.
Ideal candidate would be a Licensed Professional Engineer in multiple US states (such as MN, IL, WI, GA, MI, TN, MO, IA) and at least one Canadian Province, with the willingness and ability to obtain licensure in more states/provinces as project needs require it.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Indoor (Office Environment) Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting. Noise level varies but generally at levels of conversation. The majority of time is spent using a computer/laptop at a workstation and related office equipment. Time spent carrying, reaching, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling up to 9 kilograms / 20 pounds Occasional – 1-33% of shift. Subject to extended periods of sitting; may be required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk short to moderate distances to perform work. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment if needed.
This position will require domestic and possible international travel based on project requirements.
