Based out of Austin, Texas the role of the Senior Environmental Consultant is to support our local environmental team as well as our regional renewable energy sector. This position will support project management and provide technical support for environmental surveying, reporting, and permitting services with a focus on renewable energy clients in the Gulf Coast region. The position requires an independent individual with excellent problem solving and communication skills and renewable energy permitting experience. Project management and experience in the ERCOT/MISO/SPP region is required.

Your Opportunity
Stantec is currently seeking to add a Senior Environmental Consultant to our team in a client-facing role supporting growth in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas with a focus on the power industry. The individual in this position will help grow our power practice in the Gulf Coast Region and work with client account managers to expand our services.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing Stantec’s market profile and position as it relates to renewable energy services within the US Gulf Coast operating region. You will also oversee and direct projects and project teams in a variety of sectors and markets throughout the complete life cycle of projects, beginning in the pursuit phase.
As a senior consultant, you will leverage your technical skills, industry and market knowledge, and client and partner relationships to win and deliver projects to grow the discipline along with other business developers and leadership.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Complete work in line with Stantec’s Core Values and in accordance with our Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) procedures and Design Delivery Guidelines
- Demonstrate active commitment to Stantec’s code of business conduct and ethics policies
- Engage directly in identifying, pursuing, and winning projects; lead and participate in proposal preparation
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Stantec’s market position with clients, approval agencies, and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider
- Provide technical leadership and project management on environmental planning and permitting projects for renewable and other power sector clients
- Collaborate with and manage a community of staff across various sectors, including but not limited to federal, state, and local clients, power, municipalities, and other industrial clients
- Identify project-specific environmental design and regulatory requirements for renewables projects according to the Client’s risk management profile, industry precedents, existing guidance, regulations, best practices, and lessons learned, and use that information to inform smart permitting strategy
- Establish project objectives and procedures and lead teams on proposals, planning studies, designs, due diligence and permitting projects.
- Possess good business awareness and acumen and maintain a strong understanding of project management fundamentals: project scope, cost, schedule, and quality
- Have a clear understanding of current and future market and business conditions, revenue and profit potential, and major clients and competitors within the Gulf Region markets with a focus on Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana
- Grow Stantec’s professional relationships with stakeholders and decision makers within key client accounts
- Grow internal and external networks and identify additional high caliber talent across a range of professional disciplines to join the Stantec team
- Provide mentoring and training for staff
- Participate in conferences and seminars and represent Stantec in business, community, and social situations
Your Capabilities and Credentials

- Possess strong knowledge of project development workflows, applicable regulations, and risk profiles within the ERCOT/MISO/SPP region.
- Understand state and federal regulations and adapt to client-specific requirements
- Interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar materials
- Lead several projects or tasks concurrently with a sound understanding of overall goals, objectives, and costs to our clients
- Possess strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills and make timely decisions
- Work well as part of a team and independently, including strong interpersonal skills and professionalism
- Review and check the work of others for quality, accuracy and completeness
- Demonstrate strong mentoring and leadership skills and desire to encourage and coach staff
- Demonstrate core competency with Microsoft Office products
- Mentor and/or supervise team members
- Manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously to meet project deadlines
- Travel locally, regionally, and nationally as required for proposal and project needs
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
- Ability to pass a post-hire drug screen (client-dependent)
- Possess valid US driver’s license and good driving record
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, environmental science, or related field from an accredited university required; master’s degree preferred
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience with technical specialization and expertise in environmental compliance, natural resource assessments and studies, and permitting
Flexible office and/or field arrangements depending on required activities. Typical office environment includes working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
