Your Opportunity

As a Senior Planner within our Community Development business line, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of public and private sector planning projects. This role will focus primarily on opportunities throughout the Tampa Bay Florida region, with engagement on projects in other geographies depending on specific areas of expertise and interest. 

You will have the opportunity to work on projects such as comprehensive plans, area-wide and neighborhood plans, CRA's, urban places, smart cities, zoning codes, asset transformation and brownfield planning, smart mobility, retail repurposing, sustainable development and resiliency, compatible use plans and defense communities, master planned communities and regulatory permitting/entitlements/approvals.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead business development and marketing efforts to grow Stantec’s community development practice with a focus on planning opportunities.
  • Provide leadership for the client agreements, pre-qualifications and proposals.
  • Lead and be actively engaged with current and prospective client’s relationship building and maintenance.
  • Contribute to the development of Marketing and Business Development Plans, Sector Plans, and National/Regional Account Plans, as appropriate.
  • Play a key technical role on projects, providing strategic advice and direction throughout all project stages; engage in project work to maintain area of expertise.
  • Track regulatory and market changes and develop innovative solutions to address these changes to increase our revenue and market share.
  • Participate in client functions, trade shows and conferences.
  • Work with other senior leaders to assist with the development and implementation of National and Regional business development initiatives.
  • Report on revenue attainment, key initiatives and upcoming opportunities for the Business Center
  • Create and maintain relationships with other practice areas to promote cross-selling and interdisciplinary work.

Qualifications - External

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proven experience as a Lead Planner, in both public and private sector planning project management. 
  • Experience in business development, you will be a results-oriented individual with a proven record of accomplishment for revenue growth.
  • Thorough understanding of planning and design concepts and regulatory structure.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and public citizen input both virtually and in-person.
  • Knowledge of climate change mapping software programs a plus.
  • Effective communicator and able to work on and lead teams.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Working knowledge of relevant software, such as GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat are a plus.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Effective networking and relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting supervising and mentoring talented and motivated professional team members.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in public and private sector community planning, entitlements, urban design, and land development.
  • AICP Certification or Professional licensure or ability to obtain same is required.

Typical office environment working with computers. Some travel may be required to meet with reviewing agencies or clients or to attend public workshops and public hearings. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
