Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  
The ideal candidate will have:

 

Knowledge of:

  • All major types of building construction, materials, and methods.
  • Building, fire and related codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Hydraulics, as applied to sprinkler systems, and fire prevention.
  • Engineering mathematics and structural engineering principles in the design of reinforced concrete, steel, and timber, as applied to construction of buildings and other structures.
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering principles, as applied to the design and installation of mechanical equipment and systems in buildings.
  • Field inspection procedures and techniques.
  • Computers and Plan Review applications.
  • Microsoft Office applications.
  • Other government agencies' regulations, such as the State Registrar of Contractors and the State Board of Technical Registration.
Ability to:
  • Provide lead supervision to other employees if needed.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with architects, engineers, contractors, client staff, and the public.
  • Apply engineering knowledge and follow proper plan review and inspection techniques to examine methods and materials and detect deviations from plans, regulations, and standard construction practices.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, codes, and ordinances.
  • Read, interpret, and explain codes, engineering calculations, building plans, plot surveys, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Perform and analyze structural engineering and mathematical calculations.
  • Perform research using complex technical reference manuals.
  • Explain code requirements and plan review procedures to resolve problems with diverse groups.
  • Work independently to accurately analyze and interpret a set of highly technical construction documents.
  • Maintain and obtain ICC certifications.
  • Travel at various times when requested.

 

Special Requirements

Valid Arizona driver's license

Education and Experience

 

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in building construction, engineering, architecture or a related field plus 5 years of experience in municipal plan review, building inspection, construction contracting or management or no degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience in municipal plan review, building inspection, or construction contracting or management.

 

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
