Your opportunity

We are currently looking for a Senior Principal Planner to support our growth across the region.  As a Senior Principal Planner, you will work with our team in business development and pursue strategies working towards sustained growth in this market. You will have the opportunity to serve as a subject matter expert in urban places, comprehensive plans, area-wide and neighborhood plans, zoning codes, housing policy and development, smart mobility, smart cities, asset transformation and brownfield planning, community development, multimodal transportation, transit, sustainability, and community resilience planning.

Your responsibilities

        Lead business development and marketing efforts to grow Stantec’s practice in the region.

        Collaborate with leaders across Stantec to integrate our local, national, and global strengths in pursuing work and serving our clients and communities.

        Report on revenue attainment, key initiatives and upcoming opportunities for the Business Center

        Provide leadership for the client agreements, pre-qualifications and proposals.  Actively engage with current and prospective client’s relationship building and maintenance.

        Identify and work with multi-disciplinary program teams to develop new clients.

        Establish and maintain positive internal and external stakeholder relationships.

        Create and maintain relationships with other practice areas to promote cross-selling and interdisciplinary work.

        Contribute to the development of Marketing and Business Development Plans, Sector Plans, National/Regional Account Plans, and strategic initiatives, as appropriate.

        Track regulatory and market changes and develop innovative solutions to address these changes to increase our revenue and market share.

        Participate in client functions, trade shows and conferences.

        Develop pursuit plans for key opportunities.

        Pursue thought leadership through speaking at conferences, writing articles, and similar venues.

        Support development of scope, schedule and cost estimates related to project pursuits.

        Play a key technical role on projects, providing strategic advice and direction throughout all project stages; engage in project work to maintain area of expertise.  Provide project level leadership about client service and quality.

        At the project and account level, provide leadership to ensure that client expectations are met or exceeded.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

        Proven experience as a planning leader.

        Thorough understanding of planning and design concepts and regulatory structure.

        Effective communicator and able to work on and lead teams.

        Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.

        Excellent multi-tasking skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

        Effective networking and relationship management skills.

        Demonstrated success in recruiting supervising and mentoring talented and motivated professional team members.

        Sound problem-solving skills.

        Excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills.

        Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

        Genuine team player who will encourage teamwork within project teams and business development activities.

        Willingness to go the ‘extra mile’ to support projects, customers and fellow employees.

        Focused on providing quality services to the customers in a timely manner.

        Knowledge of project management principles and processes.

        Willingness to travel as necessary.

        Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.

        Prior to employment with Stantec, this position may require the successful passing of a drug & alcohol screen.

        Working knowledge of relevant software.

Education and Experience

        Bachelor’s degree,

        15+ years of experience in public and/or private sector community planning, entitlements, urban design, sustainability, smart mobility, and land development.

        AICP Certification or Professional licensure or ability to obtain same is required.
