Your Opportunity
You will work on tasks under some guidance of a Project Architect. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible to participate in the preparation of construction documents and manage site construction activities on multiple renovation projects with minimal supervision.
Exposure to the practice of architecture is imperative and we focus on providing opportunities for you to experience the multi-facets of a project.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Provide onsite reviews and coordination of sub consultants with respect to construction projects
- Prepare and distribute construction administration documents
- Review of monthly progress draws and issue certificate of payment to client.
- Review and respond to contractor documentation such as RFI’s and Shop Drawings
- Act as prime consultants representative during the construction phase of projects to both contractor and owner
- Prepare and/or participate in review of construction documents for tendering of projects
- Prepare cost estimates of land development construction works.
- Work with clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives
- Review construction sites and provide deficiency reports
- Liaise with municipalities and design team to facilitate certification of constructed works and return of securities.
- Attends project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
- Occasional travel to site locations
- Continuing as a Project Architect in the practice:
- Inspire creativity, critical thought, and design excellence both internally and externally.
- Conceptualize a building design from both a functional and aesthetic perspective in concert with a client’s requirements, budget, and program.
- Develop a design through sketches, physical models, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats to express the design intent and communicate to project team, client, and building user groups.
- Utilize BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
- Participate in design critiques and constructability reviews.
- Present the design with the Project Manager and Project Designer to stakeholders during early project phases. Develops building design in accordance with cost parameters.
- Work with the medical planner to ensure space planning, block planning, and adjacency diagrams align with the building program.
- Evaluate and select building systems and materials.
- Coordinate building systems to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Implement sustainable design principles into the design and environment.
- Implement Life Safety strategies for healthcare and related occupancies.
- Knowledge of Lean tools and on-site big room experience is a plus.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Must have the ability to participate in on-site project team setting.
- Senior knowledge of building construction systems, constructability, materials, and industry associated standards.
- Strong communicator with a proactive team approach and effective organizational skills that can lead a collaborative team with clarity and focus on complex construction issues while maintaining construction schedule.
- Check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage team to meet project budget and schedule.
- General understanding of the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Apply accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and life-safety codes to a wide variety of project scopes and complexity.
- Engage in creative and critical thought.
- Produce design at a level that would be perceived externally as excellent.
- Hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
- Lead one or more teams on varying size projects through the development of design concept.
- Interpret sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material.
- Present abstract ideas to the client and client representatives.
- Possess general understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and Newforma. Knowledge of AutoCAD is considered an asset.
- Extensive knowledge in the field of inspection and contract administration of municipal engineering works with a preference working on Land Development projects is considered an asset.
- Experienced in project planning, risk management, cost management, schedule management and preparation/administration of contract documents and specifications.
- Familiarity with building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, telecommunication, construction materials, methods and processes.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
- Ideally, you are also self-motivated individual possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and are able to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Must have strong communication skills, verbal and written.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Must have a vehicle, valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and pdf markup. Knowledge of AutoCAD is considered an asset.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
- California Registered Architect preferred
- Minimum of 12+ years of experience, preferably on large teams with healthcare clients.
- Well versed with HCAI/OSHPD processes, forms, and protocols required.
- Familiarity with e-builder platform preferred.
- Experience with leading and implementation of Lean Tools preferred
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
