Join a Top 10 global design firm in our Texas buildings practice that provides Architecture, Buildings Engineering, and Interior Design services with a long history and deep commitment to the Science & Technology sector. Our Houston office is seeking a Senior Project Architect to support our Science & Technology projects. Our clients range from local community colleges to Ivy League/Tier One research universities. We also work in partnership with leading corporate, research and development clients. You will be leading an architectural team and collaborating with engineers and must be able to organize the work of multi-disciplinary teams focused on technically challenging science and technology projects. Digital, Communication and Technical skills are paramount.
You will be working as part of an integrated team of architects, lab planners, and engineers to design facilities to specific client needs and goals associated with teaching and research activities in engineering, life science and physical sciences. As part of this role, you will be developing client relationships and mentoring younger staff. Your Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate design/technical related activities with the design team, and client representatives in each phase of design, including construction documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, landscape, civil, and other Science and Technology consultants.
- Provide technical skills as part of an integrated team for building design, construction documents, including code expertise.
- Initiate communication and coordination between project members, and clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Develop and review, reports, and contract documents in accordance with client needs and Stantec policy.
- Provide Construction Administration services including site visits, RFI’s, submittals, and OAC meetings during construction
- Provide team leadership and mentor younger staff.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Interpret and apply building codes, energy codes, and requirements of regulatory agencies.
- Assist in the coordination of permit requirements for city building permit sets.
- Evaluate building design using sustainable design principles.
- Lead project coordination and site meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor and sub-contractors.
- Participate in client project requirement meetings.
- Participate in value analysis and basic cost estimating.
- Assist in the preparation of specifications in coordination with building plans and the specifications writer.
- Recommendation and selection of building systems and materials.
- Participate in constructability review.
- Participate in bidding and negotiation phase and prepare addenda.
- Coordinate and direct external consultants including evaluation of quality and progress of work.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and provide independent quality control reviews for other projects.
- Assist in preparation of project budget, schedule, and overall work planning.
- Ensures that work conforms to project budget, schedule, and overall work planning.
- Experience with modeling/drafting software (Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Enscape)
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture is required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience is required, with a portion being Science & Technology/Higher Education within an architectural practice
- Experience in leading large technically complex projects ($80m or greater) from beginning to end
- Registered Architect in Texas is required.
- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP is preferred.
