Senior Project Manager – Building Services

Stantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting. The diverse perspectives of our partners and interested parties drive us to think beyond what’s previously been done on critical issues like climate change, digital transformation, and future-proofing our cities and infrastructure.

We are designers, engineers, scientists, project managers, and strategic advisors. We innovate at the intersection of community, creativity, and client relationships to advance communities everywhere, so that together we can redefine what’s possible.

About the role

Stantec’s Buildings team in New Zealand delivers end-to-end projects for our clients, from feasibility and design through to construction, commissioning, and operation. Specialising in mission-critical facilities such as data centres and healthcare, our team of 100 brings expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, fire, electrical, structural, and sustainability engineering to local projects. We’re proud to put user needs at the centre of every design.

We are a global, multidiscipline engineering and professional services consultancy with a strong and growing presence across New Zealand. Within our Building Services group, we are delivering an increasingly diverse portfolio of technically complex projects and are seeking Senior Project Managers with proven capability providing endtoend project delivery across multidiscipline building services environments.

Complex buildings demand strong leadership, disciplined delivery, and seamless coordination across disciplines.

This is a career opportunity for an experienced Project Manager who thrives on complexity, understands how buildings come together across disciplines, and excels at leading teams to successful outcomes for clients and communities.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will be accountable for the endtoend delivery of technically complex building services projects across a range of sectors, working from project initiation through to completion and closeout.

You will coordinate closely with clients, technical leads, contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with agreed scope, programme, commercial and quality objectives.

Your role spans three core areas:

  • Project delivery excellence

  • Trusted client relationships

  • Leadership of highperforming project delivery teams

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Leading the setup, planning and execution of small to large building services projects across multiple sectors

  • Managing scope, programme, budget, risk and quality in line with bestpractice project governance

  • Driving contract execution, including consultant and contractor management

  • Establishing clear communication protocols and maintaining a “no surprises” approach with clients and leadership

  • Proactively managing commercial performance, forecasting, invoicing and project risk

  • Supporting pursuits and proposals, bringing practical delivery insight to bids and client discussions

  • Building strong, trusted relationships with clients, delivery partners and internal teams

  • Leading and mentoring project team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement

  • Championing health, safety, environmental and security outcomes across all phases of delivery

Why Building Services Project Experience Matters

Building services projects sit at the interface of multiple disciplines and stakeholders. Successful delivery requires strong coordination, clarity, and an understanding of how technical decisions affect programme, cost, quality and longterm asset performance.

We’re looking for Project Managers who:

  • Have handson experience delivering multidiscipline building services projects

  • Understand the interfaces between building services disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, fire, ICT, controls and hydraulics

  • Are comfortable managing projects of varying size, complexity and stakeholder profiles

About You

You will bring:

  • A degree in Engineering or a related discipline

  • 7+ years’ experience delivering projects within a consulting or professional services environment

  • Can confidently engage with clients, contractors, technical specialists and internal leadership

  • Appreciate the importance of quality, risk management and predictable delivery

  • Demonstrated success leading complex building services projects across one or more sectors

  • Strong commercial acumen and experience managing budgets, programmes and risk

  •  Welldeveloped communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills

  • The confidence to make sound decisions and lead through ambiguity

  • A collaborative leadership style, with a genuine commitment to developing people

  • Formal project management certification (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2) is desirable.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of building projects across New Zealand

  • A role with real autonomy, supported by a mature and welldefined Project Management Framework

  • Access to a global consultancy network, technical expertise and career pathways

  • A culture that puts people first and values integrity, collaboration and excellence

  • Ongoing professional development, mentoring and leadership support
