Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists within Stantec's Water Sector for an experienced Senior Project Manager/Engineer to join our team in Atlanta, GA.  As the successful candidate, you will use your technical abilities to plan, analyze, and design water resources systems and facilities (e.g. hydraulic and hydrologic studies, dams, levees, flood control, etc.) primarily in the municipal market and power sectors as part of a dynamic design team.  

Your Key Responsibilities

As Senior Project Manager/ Engineer, you will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of successful water resources projects by helping develop and manage cost effective, practical designs and construction solutions for our clients. You will interact internally throughout the organization with staff at all levels as well as clients, members of professional organizations, subcontractors, and other firms. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Working effectively with all project team members, including the client, project manager, and junior staff.
  • Coordinating with engineers and technical staff to ensure that the projects' needs are met in a timely and effective manner
  • Preparing proposals for new projects 
  • Managing project budgets, staff allocation for projects, and preparing and reviewing invoices prior to issuance to the client 
  • Following established processes for obtaining necessary project approvals from various agencies 
  • Preparing detailed design calculations, developing construction drawings and specifications, and overseeing design implementation.  
  • Writing technical reports and design briefs to document analyses 
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of your written, technical and graphic work 
  • Plan, organize, and manage the production of project deliverables to ensure on time delivery, technical quality and within budget – includes coordinating work efforts and the preparation of deliverables reports, client stewardship and coordinating with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Execute multiple concurrent projects efficiently.
  • Conduct alternative analyses to support business case evaluations for project decisions.
  • Project management including coordinating work efforts and the preparation of deliverables reports, client stewardship and coordinating with other disciplines and subcontractors on multi-discipline projects.
  • Mentor junior staff and supervise direct reports.
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships, including seeking, leading and implementing business development strategies for key clients
  • Develop long-lasting partnerships with our clients and understand our client's needs to facilitate full-service offerings.
  • Leadership and involvement in related professional societies, including preparation and presentation of papers at professional society conferences and seminars.
  • Talent recruitment and development.
  • Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused to understand and appropriately respond to client’s business needs.
  • Must demonstrate effective resource planning, results delivery, and staying current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state regulations and permitting requirements including the required supporting documentation.
  • Proven ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships.
  • Proved experience managing teams and supervising direct reports.
  • Knowledge of documents related to requests for proposals, invitations for bid, and tendering offers.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Project and task management experience with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Excellent technical writing, organizational, and communications skills.
  • Efficient project management/technical leadership of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Understand client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and producing high quality deliverables.
  • Effective communicator and able to work on and lead teams.
  • Strong presentation and interview skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation.
  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of design and construction codes.
  • Strong leadership, team building, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed to fill role responsibilities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (minimum) in Civil, Water Resources, Biological Systems, Environmental Engineering, or other closely related degree required. Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years prior experience in a similar role required.
  • Minimum of 2 years prior experience with large project or contract management responsibilities required.
  • Professional Licensure (P.E.) required. Registered in Georgia or ability to obtain reciprocity.
  • Preferred: Georgia Safe Dams Program Engineer of Record 

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
