Your Opportunity
Our Waterloo office is looking for a Senior Project Manager - Land Development to join our Community Development team. As a Senior Project Manager - Land Development, you will perform a variety of tasks including project management, business development and growing our team of engineers, technicians and other specialists. The Project Manager is expected to win and/or be assigned projects that have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge and industry experience. This ideal candidate will be capable of leading all aspects of a project from the business development (pursuit stage) through conceptual design, detailed design, agency approvals and implementation. As Project Manager you will be responsible for to ensure appropriate project team structure, resource efficiency and financial accountability.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for large projects of high complexity.
- Manage multiple projects. Managing the approved scope, budget and schedule are of utmost importance.
- Develops and manages the project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
- Engage regularly with key clients to discuss current projects and evaluate firm performance, as well as identify other business opportunities either with current clients or through referrals, focusing on business development efforts and strategic pursuits.
- Leads and develops a team of engineers and technologists, providing mentorship to other staff.
- Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all civil engineered systems or products for a project.
- Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Oversees technologies in development of three-dimensional models of civil systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers.
- Prepares and revises documentation in various civil phases including site plans, plans of subdivision, diagrams, and details.
- Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Leads in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
- Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
- Participates in constructability review.
- Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
- Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the civil group.
- Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects.
- Participating in and leading (when required) marketing efforts, and business development pursuits, including lead development, proposal preparation, presentations, relationship management and client surveys.
- Developing and maintaining positive and professional relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, sub-consultants, competitor/teaming partners, and potential recruits.
- Oversees and manages multiple projects.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of relevant land development guidelines in/around Waterloo.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of civil systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.
- Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Advanced understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others. Strong presentation and interview skills.
- Effective communicator and able to work on and lead teams.
- Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is considered an asset for this position.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in consulting engineering and project management.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
