Your Opportunity

Stantec is embarking on a strategic initiative to grow our transit and railroad engineering team in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Transit and Rail (T&R) Market. As a Senior Railway Engineer Project Manager, you will help grow Stantec’s T&R sector by managing complex railroad and transit projects, conducting design reviews for other T&R teams across the organization, and engaging clients. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead T&R design projects from design development through construction services on projects using various project delivery methods.
  • Supervise junior engineers and other technical professionals in the preparation of deliverables.
  • Conduct QA/QC review of design deliverables for multi-disciplinary teams across the United States.  
  • Provide hands-on participation with scope, fee, and schedule negotiations.
  • Support cross-business line strategic initiatives by providing thought leadership and technical insight.
  • Provide support to the T&R Sector Leader and other regional business developers by providing technical expertise and insight in the development of pursuit strategies and preparation of proposals.
  • Increase Stantec’s industry profile through regular interaction with potential clients and other consultants and active participation in industry organizations, such as ACEC, APTA, AREMA, ASLRRA, NAMRC, NRC and other relevant local, regional, or national organizations.
  • Support our strategic growth initiatives through networking, promotion, university outreach, and the delivery of transformational projects to attract the best and brightest talent to Stantec.
  • Maintain and enhance our reputation with industry contacts, especially freight railroads, passenger rail service providers, rail contractors, and transit agency technical staff and leaders, as an outstanding service provider and to introduce Stantec’s broader capabilities.
  • Identify additional talent to join Stantec and externally grow our T&R Sector team.  

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Licensed or ability to obtain Professional Engineer license in the states of Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
  • Demonstrated experience in MicroStation V8i, InRoads, and OpenRail.
  • Project management and business development experience with state passenger rail agencies and commuter rail or regional passenger service providers in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.
  • Project management experience with Amtrak is a plus.
  • Project management experience with CSXT, Norfolk Southern, and regional Short Line operators.
  • Project management experience with multiple project delivery types, including General Engineering Consultant (GEC) contracts, design-bid-build, and Alternative Project Delivery (APD).
  • Thorough knowledge of AREMA, Class I Railroad, and agency design standards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills are essential to meet the expectations of this challenging position.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • 10-15 years of experience in track engineering and project management.
  • Position will primarily work in an office setting.
