About the role

At Stantec, we’re highly aware of the global challenges our industry is facing, especially the impacts of climate change. As a Senior Stormwater Engineer, you will be an important part of our thriving national water team in New Zealand.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants to take the next step in their career and contribute to infrastructure and development projects across Aotearoa New Zealand, guided by the principles of Te Mana o te Wai.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the improved understanding and management of stormwater in Aotearoa New Zealand through collaboration with clients, communities, and internal teams.

  • Supporting projects related to resilience, adaptation, and climate change response.

  • Taking a hands-on technical role in the delivery of stormwater strategy, planning, and design—from catchment management to water-sensitive urban design (WSUD).

  • Contributing to the delivery of innovative stormwater infrastructure, including nature-based solutions.

  • Working alongside a wide range of stakeholders including mana whenua, clients, planners, engineers, and scientists.

  • Supporting the development of junior staff through mentoring and technical guidance.

  • Engaging with our national and global stormwater network to share knowledge and apply best practices.

  • Continuously developing your own technical and professional capabilities.

What you will bring

You will have a solid foundation in stormwater engineering, with a proven track record delivering successful projects in a multidisciplinary environment. You are organised, proactive, and thrive in a team setting.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or a related discipline).

  • Significant professional experience in stormwater design and/or management.

  • Proficiency with relevant stormwater modelling and design software.

  • The ability to contribute to project delivery and support project managers.

  • Strong communication skills for working with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • A collaborative mindset, with a willingness to learn and share knowledge.

  • A growth mindset and drive to achieve better outcomes for people and the environment.

What we offer

Along with a competitive salary, we offer many other benefits to ensure your wellbeing and ongoing professional development, including:

  • Flexible Working Arrangements – including the option to purchase up to 4 weeks of additional leave and school-term only contracts

  • Learning and Talent Development Programs – including global initiatives, online learning, and on-the-job experience

  • Mentoring and support for your professional development

  • Paid professional membership

  • Health, Income Protection, and Life Insurance

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

  • Service Recognition Awards
