Your Opportunity

As a Senior Tunnel and Trenchless Geologist and Subject Matter Expert your role is to work with teams in advisory, oversight or review capacities to support technical execution of studies, assessments, design and construction projects.  The role will be a balance of risk and design-related assignments across a diverse set of projects.  Depending on project, specific roles may include facilitator, subject matter expert, project technical lead, discipline lead, technical reviewer and/or advisor.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert related to tunnel and trenchless engineering
  • Serve as facilitator or subject matter expert in risk assessments
  • Provide guidance, oversight and coaching/mentoring to tunnel and trenchless discipline team members
  • Serve in technical review and advisory roles on various studies, assessments, design and construction projects.
  • Provide technical project leadership overseeing various studies, assessments and designs
  • Provide risk related training and be involved in industry organizations (committees, papers, presentations, etc.)
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings
  • Support value engineering, alternative analyses and risk-informed design approaches
  • Assist project technical leaders and project managers with developing technical scopes of work
  • Lead preparation and coordination of the technical deliverables, project plans and specifications
  • Work on multiple projects, simultaneously with virtual teams as needed
  • Review Contractor’s shop drawing and submittals regarding tunnel and trenchless work and investigating and developing engineered solutions to Contractor’s Requests for Information.
  • Assist technical staff in field activities including tunnel and trenchless observations, monitoring and other fieldwork
  • Work in a manner to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.
  • Travel as necessary to support project assignments and development of internal network

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experienced risk facilitator and SME
  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of tunnel and trenchless systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness, manage time to meet project budgets and schedules and take responsibility for geologic components of tunnel and trenchless project work
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
  • Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor and develop junior staff
  • Thorough understanding of tunnel and trenchless concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Presentation and interview skills
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
  • May require providing geologic input for production of 3D models and 2D tunnel and trenchless engineering drawings

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Geology and/or Geophysics required, master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Geologist license required
  • Minimum of 30 years of experience

Position Requirements

Typical office environment, to be in office, at project site or work remotely, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.  Remote working provisions following an initial on-boarding period to depend on project and Client requirements and supervisory requirements.
