Stantec’s Minneapolis office is looking for a Senior Urban Planner to deliver high quality and innovative services to our clients and pursue additional opportunities that meet your skillset and interests.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of local planning agencies and codes, land development activities, site design considerations, and being comfortable working directly with clients and members of the community/public are a must. Must be eager to serve small cities and suburban communities in all facets of planning, zoning, and development review and be willing to help our team bring projects from concept to deliverable.
  • Make clear, verbal, and visual presentations of staff reports and staff recommendations to city councils and planning commissions.
  • Prepare ordinance amendments and provide recommendations on zoning best practices.
  • Possess knowledge of local planning processes and codes, land development activities, and site design considerations.
  • Maintain and strengthen client relationships and plays a key role in client management and satisfaction.
  • Manage continuing service/staff augmentation clients.
  • Manage planning projects ranging from comprehensive plans to entitlements and serve as the subject matter expert on project work.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Serve as a mentor to earlier-career staff.
  • Must be comfortable working with clients and members of the community/public in a variety of settings from formal public hearings to listening sessions.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of other professionals who assist in specific assignments.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Reviews own work for accuracy and coordinates with others to ensure QA/QC of deliverables.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Required:

  • Knowledge of planning best practices, local development codes, the entitlement process, and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AICP certification.
  • Highly effective in assisting and leading teams on complex projects.
  • Demonstrates ability to readily identify potential problems on a project.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, Urban Studies, Geography, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years related professional experience.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in urban planning, Urban Studies, Geography, or related field.
