Your Opportunity

Stantec's is hiring an entry level environmental professional to work with our biological survey, site restoration, due diligence, site assessment and remediation team. The Staff professional will provide support to all stages of projects and will provide a diverse range of consulting experience across many of the sectors and technical service areas that Stantec supports. The opportunity provides a dynamic diverse range of project work for an entry level Scientist position and ability to create a career that will allow you grow your professional career as a consultant.  

 Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide desktop support (e.g., GIS data, aerial imagery, and database searches) to the project team to evaluate potential impacts to biological/wetland resources.
  • Assist with field work such as breeding bird surveys, vegetation community assessments, wetland delineation and classification, special-status species surveys, and construction monitoring, including the preparation of parts or all associated reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports (e.g., biological resources technical reports, jurisdictional delineation reports, monitoring reports, etc.).
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory requirements, wildlife and vegetation assessment methodologies and best practices.
  • Travel may be required within southern California.
  • Develop a working understanding of Stantec’s other consulting practice areas and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients.
  • Perform pre-field preparation for on-site projects including development of health and safety documents, coordinating with subcontractors, and obtaining permits. 
  • Conduct field work (about 70% work) which will consist of conducting tailgate health and safety meetings, completing biological surveys, and supporting due diligence, site assessment and remediation related tasks.
  • Support other environmental services projects involving biological, ecosystem restoration, due diligence, site assessment and remediation projects by providing field support, data management, interpretation, and technical assistance. 
  • Preparation of technical reports presenting key findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Should be personable, motivated, and a self-starter capable of working both individually and as part of team.
  • Strong technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
  • Ability to analyze information and data and develop appropriate conclusions, as required.
  • Ability to creatively problem-solve and communicate.
  • Willing and able to travel – expected 70% field to 30% office-based ratio of supporting multiple projects.
  • Highly proficient with MS Office suite (Word, Excel).
  • Current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is preferred.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful completion of a physical exam.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology or related discipline is preferred. 

This position is a combination of field and office work.   Typical office environment working with computers and working at a stationary desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
