Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Mountain Region is looking for a Staff Project Engineer/Geologist/Scientist for our Environmental Serv ices Group. The role as a Staff Project Engineer/Geologist/Scientist is to perform field and tasks management duties associated with environmental permitting, hydrologic and hydrogeological studies, subsurface investigations, remediation, and monitoring projects; sampling of soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater; oversight of subcontractors; production of maps; data interpretation/evaluation and deliverable preparation.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Experience with UST and contaminated land investigations and remediation, environmental due diligence with Phase I ESA and Phase II ESA experience, RCRA, CERCLA regulations, borehole logging experience using USCS protocol 
  • Experience with soil and groundwater sampling protocol.
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of various field sampling and monitoring equipment.
  • Communicate daily with the project team and clients as needed.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill are required.  
  • Experience in routine groundwater and soil sampling procedures
  • Position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail, good work ethic, and a passion for high quality workmanship
  • Excellent organizational skills, combined with the ability and flexibility to work in a dynamic, challenging and fast paced environment
  • The ability to travel occasionally throughout the Intermountain West is required.
  • Prior to employment, this position will require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical or biologic science, geology or engineering 
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in natural resources consulting is preferred
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER and/or associated yearly 8 hour refresher course required
  • Professional Engineer or Registered Geologist/Professional Geologist is preferred
  • State UST sampling and various consultant certifications, as appropriate

This position will be in an office environment working with computers and working at a stationary desk for long periods of time. Our Salt Lake City Environmental Services team generally works remotely and meets frequently; however, an office desk is available if preferred. Because of this, the successful candidate will be expected to reside within a reasonable commuting distance to Salt Lake City, Utah, and our Cottonwood Heights office location.
