Your Opportunity
The Structural Engineer will design, evaluate, select, and specify systems or products for transportation and infrastructure projects. Projects may include bridges for highways, transit or freight railways, and associated structures. You will work as a project team member and have the opportunity to work on projects that will have a large impact on the community.
Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned projects.
- May be responsible for the review and sealing of own projects or the work of the others.
- Manage the design and construction of projects and provide structural engineering input.
- Opportunities to lead other team members while working on projects.
- Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
- Prepares construction contract documents, project proposals, change orders, plans and reports.
- Performs calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Attends client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goals.
- Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
- Monitors project team to ensure budgets and schedules are being met.
- Trains less experienced team members in day-to-day activities including routine technical design, processing, and company procedures.
- Utilizes relevant software programs to prepare exhibits and complex working drawings.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Thorough understanding of all phases of project document production
- Comprehensive understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions
- Proficient in Microstation or AutoCAD, and other relevant design software as well as Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
- Knowledge of calculations performed by software.
- Effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies
- Solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness.
- Manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to others
- Create and interpret sketches, drawings, and various structures
- Valid driver’s license
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structures, Master’s Degree a plus.
- EIT Certification Required, Professional Engineer License preferred.
- Previous structural engineering experience preferred.
