Structural Engineer
Your Capabilities and Credentials
As the ideal candidate, you have/are:
- Registered P. Eng. or eligible to obtain P.Eng with several provinces in Canada.
- Strong communication, coordination, and time management skills.
- Self-starter with ability to work independently.
- Ability to apply practical knowledge and make sound judgement to analyze issues, interpret information and select methods and solutions to resolve design problems within stand practice guidelines. Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes (NBCC, CSA, ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards. Experience with heavy industrial structures is highly valued. This includes structural steel design and reinforced concrete design, for both substructures and superstructures.
- Understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Ability to check own work and work of others for accuracy and completeness
- Skills to manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Experience in project team setting and engaging in creative and critical thinking.
- Enthusiastic to expand structural engineering knowledge and keen to work in a team environment.
- Willingness to work on multiple jobs/projects at a time.
- Knowledge of and ability to use industry standard structural analysis software suites (STAAD.Pro, SAP 2000, RISA 3D etc.), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of mathematical computational tools such as MathCad and the ability to perform detailed structural calculations within this environment.
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English and French (written and verbal) will be considered a strong asset.
- Experience working or projects related to power transmission and distribution, specifically substations, is a strong asset.
- Licensed or have the ability to be licensed in the United States is a strong asset.
- Willingness to travel to client sites and other Stantec offices is an asset.
- Field experience is an asset.
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural.
- A Master's degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural is preferred.
- Registered Professional Engineer in Canada with 5 to 15 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on industrial infrastructure.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
