As a Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) on our transportation team, you will be a part of Stantec’s dynamic group of over 500 bridge engineers who are responsible for expanding our bridge engineering and working on a wide variety of innovative and diverse projects. 

 

The role of an entry level Structural EIT is to work as a team member on small and large projects In this role, you will work under the  supervision of a Senior Bridge Engineer to develop skills in evaluating, designing, specifying, and developing plans for a project.

 

An entry level Structural EIT will perform a variety of tasks which may include assisting with typical projects including development of construction plans, specifications, cost estimate, engineering reports and studies for infrastructure projects, including bridges, transportation related structures, and other structural elements.

 

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of bridges, walls, culverts, and sign structures incorporating Ohio DOT practices and AASHTO LRFD standards
  • Assist with conducting engineering investigations, feasibility studies, cost, and risk analysis
  • Assist with assessing and identifying bridge load ratings
  • Use of advanced structural analysis/design software and 3D models
  • Assist with the completion of bridge construction plans and specifications
  • Assist with preparing structural computations, material quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates and helping in checking the work of others
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
  • Some working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions. Familiarity with Ohio DOT and AASHTO LRFD codes a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
  • Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues.
  • Microstation experience is a plus.
  • Experience with structural design is a plus.
  • Excellent organization, project management and communication skills both written and verbal along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team.

 

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in structural design. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 0-2 years of professional experience in the design of bridges and structures. Previous internship experience in bridge design, analysis or inspection a plus. 
  • Licensure: Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) designation preferred or ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire.

 

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
