Your Opportunity
At Stantec our offices offer a vibrant and dynamic environment with excellent opportunities for professional growth. As a junior member of the Fredericton, NB structural team, the ideal candidate will work in the Fredericton, NB, or Dartmouth, NS, office.
The role of a Structural EIT is to work as a team member on small and large projects under the guidance and close supervision of an Intermediate or Senior Engineer. The Structural EIT will assist with the development of analyses, component designs, report writing, coordination with other disciplines, and other tasks and designs for industrial and general structural engineering projects in areas such as pulp & paper and tissue, power generation and transmission, oil and gas, mining, food and beverage, and composite wood products. This role may also include assistance with the design of bridges and other transportation structures.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct basic interpretations of drawings, design codes and standards, and other similar documents.
- Perform structural modeling and design of structural components using relevant company standard software, hand calculations, and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer/designer.
- Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
- Assist with the development of technical specifications and proposals.
- Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or clients.
- Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team.
- Understand and work within Stantec's quality control guidelines.
- Comply with Stantec's EH&S program, with a focus on safety in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Knowledge and application of structural design codes (NBCC, CSA, ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).
- Knowledge of and ability to use industry standard structural analysis software suites (STAAD.Pro, SAP 2000, etc.), Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
- Understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Strong in fundamentals and first principles, sound technical skills, with focus on accurate design calculations and analysis.
- Knowledge of structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Recognizes when
- Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thinking.
- Skilled at conducting preliminary research.
- Field experience is an asset.
- Enthusiastic to expand structural engineering knowledge and keen to work in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work on multiple jobs/projects at a time.
- Good presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in French (written and verbal) will be considered an asset.
- Willingness to travel and a valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering. A Master’s degree is considered an asset.
- Eligible to apply as engineer-in-training with APEGNB and apply for P.Eng. licensure within four years.
- Previous co-op/Internship of related work experience.
