Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Power team in Burnaby BC is currently offering exciting opportunities for Protection and Control Engineers to work on a variety of HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects throughout North America. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop efficient and reliable substations for our clients. You will coordinate the planning and design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. We provide career opportunities that are as unique as you.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Follow P&C application document to define P&C and SCADA design scopes.
- Develop control building layout, P&C one line diagram, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout and wiring diagram, station service AC/DC distribution diagram, bill of material, cable schedule, point assignment, etc.
- Visit the site to collect and verify data to support engineering during identification phase, definition phase and execution phase of the project delivery cycle.
- Carry out/review/analyze complex technical studies and project scopes; develop and review technical specifications, drawings and standards of equipment/ projects.
- Review the design basis memorandum, detailed engineering scope and guide the assigned discipline engineers/designers to align the engineering deliverables according to project requirements.
- Provide construction support including resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
- Selection of equipment and material and preparation of specifications for material, equipment, construction and installation work.
- Conduct SCADA-related and/or Telecom-related engineering activities under supervision of senior SCADA or Telecom engineer.
- Professional of Record on P&C design deliverables (drawings and reports).
- Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.
- Maintain complete project documentation with respect to engineering studies and calculations, all design packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
- Work closely with peers to ensure accurate delivery and thorough P&C design that will meet industry standards and specifications, and meet good engineering practices.
- Maintain good working relationship with internal groups that support project such as other Engineering disciplines, Drafting, Procurement, Construction and Project Management etc. Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members.
- Drafting may be required in order to complete deliverables.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Excellent computer skills with MS Office; Proficient in AutoCAD and Microstation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operation and design of substation SCADA and Telecom system.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; good at conveying technical knowledge to customers/clients; solid team skills in relationships with team members and external business relationships.
- A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Power System) with minimum 6 years of proven direct detailed design experience in Protection & Control for HV substation projects with Utilities in North America.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
