Technical Illustrator
The primary areas of responsibility involve the conceptual, predesign, and design and preparation of technical, visual content for the water and wastewater design industry. The responsibility involves the design and preparation of graphic content for proposals, presentations, technical reports, and construction documentation. They understand the complexity of electronic file management, including file naming conventions, server filing and retrieval of visual assets. Our technical illustrators need to work directly with engineering staff and designers to understand scope, schedule and budget of the projects.
Conceptual Design: Detailed knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure, treatment flow and layout. Ability to quickly produce concept figures for future expansion including phasing, options and detailed structures and equipment.
Technical Reports: Ability to collaborate with engineers to design clear, technically accurate and aesthetically pleasing figure sets for predesign reports, tech memos, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
Design: Produce and edit detailed construction drawings for water and wastewater infrastructure projects with supervision of senior designers and engineering staff.
Master Planning, Cultural, EIR and SWPPP: Ability to work with engineers, scientists and modelers to produce clear, accurate and aesthetically pleasing mapping sets for master plans, cultural impact reports, SWPPP mapping and environmental impact reports.
Project Tracking: Complete project tracking and ensure that time and materials used are recorded accurately for chargeback to clients.
File management: Maintain digital files for identification and retrieval later. Deconstruction/archiving of projects and visual elements to the appropriate servers and databases is required. Other responsibilities: Participate as part of the department, attend meetings, lead/support initiatives and assist with special projects as requested. Actively troubleshoot obstacles (software, technical, process, etc.) and partner with management for quick resolution.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Must have extensive experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcMAP and GIS Pro.
- Must have extensive experience using Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator)
- Must have experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Google Earth Pro on a PC platform.
- Must have availability to work occasional scheduled overtime to complete deadlines.
- Travel requirement may range from 10% to 25%.
- Must have a visual portfolio that illustrates a fluent understanding of design fundamentals (color theory, typography, space, form, rhythm, composition, etc.)
Education and Experience
A minimum of 15 years of prior technical illustration experience required; proposal design or A/E/C industry experience is required
Bachelor's Degree in graphic design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
