 Your Opportunity

Stantec is looking for new members of our environmental services team in Atlantic Canada to join our team as a Terrestrial Biologist and conduct field surveys and related reporting to support environmental impact assessment and permitting opportunities. This role is full-time and offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and benefits. As part of our environmental services team the successful applicant will support the development and delivery of environmental studies for a variety of resource, infrastructure, and development projects in our local communities and across the country. You will be part of a team that includes national experts who will mentor you closely as you grow your skills and career while working on a diverse collection of environmental management projects.

 Your Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental field work in your area of interest and experience, which may include avian surveys, vegetation surveys, and/or wetland surveys
  • Lead and/or assist in the development of environmental management programs such as environmental impact assessments, environmental protection plans, and environmental permits
  • Candidates may also have the opportunity to support other service areas depending on their interests and abilities and learn from discipline leads (e.g. aquatics, remediation, air quality)
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of experts including freshwater biologists, marine biologists, terrestrial and wildlife biologists, archaeologists, and engineers
  • Analyze field and technical data, and draft technical reports
  • Lead and/or support the development of proposals and participate in other business development activities
  • Follow established standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to complete project work
  • Conduct desktop project-related research (e.g., historic data, regulations, literature reviews)
  • Complete applicable company and client required health & safety training and follow health &safety policies and procedures
  • Support development and delivery of Indigenous, public, and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Attend client and regulatory meetings

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Able to work effectively in a team atmosphere and independently, as required
  • Experience in the collection of biological and physical field data in one or more of the following disciplines: birds, vascular plants, lichens, or wetlands
  • Comfortable working on multiple projects concurrently, sometimes reporting to different individuals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and technical writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn new skills and flexibility in undertaking work tasks
  • Knowledge of relevant local provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies is an asset
  • Knowledge of general construction practices and environmental mitigation measures is an asset
  • Experience in conducting environmental baseline programs and environmental impact assessments is an asset
  • A willingness to travel and periodically work extended hours
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Environmental Science, Forestry, Environmental Management, Engineering, or related field. A Master’s degree would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 1-5 years’ work experience. However, individuals with 1 year or less of work experience or equivalent (e.g. work co-ops, travel or other experience) should not be discouraged from applying.
