Your Opportunity
As Texas Strategic Development Leader, your role is responsible for leading the business development process and pursuits throughout the State of Texas. Accountable for the top and bottom-line results, leads and focuses on the growth of the Texas Transportation Business.
You will play a pivotal role in expanding our existing client and project base and assisting to position the firm to acquire new business. You will work together with the Transportation Regional Business Leader (RBL), the Transportation Business Center (BC) Leaders as well as the leaders from other Stantec Texas business lines (Buildings, Water, Environmental Services and Energy & Resources) to provide operational, technical and people leadership while continuing our growth & success in Texas.
You will leverage your experience with Texas highway and roadway projects to grow Texas practice and manage the design and delivery of large TxDOT Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
Client Focus
- Lead accounts for major clients
- Achieve marketing and business development (M&BD) sales goals
- Lead and participate in key pursuits and campaigns
- Work with the Transportation BC Leadership and other Business Lines Leaders to drive the client relationship strategy
Business Development
- Lead the Texas Transportation business development efforts through focused key pursuits, M&BD efficiency and strong sales strategy focused on winning work
- Work with BC Leadership to identify priorities and strategic opportunities based on market research and client relationships
- Responsible for expanding client base and for developing win strategies, pursuit plan and proposal efforts, including cross-selling with other Business Lines
- Track pursuit success rate and return on investment (ROI) rate on client-by-client basis and for key pursuits
- Lead the Go/No Go Review process and track compliance of the Go/No Go Process
- Utilize, maintain, and monitor the Stantec Opportunity Pipeline for all M&BD efforts
- Increase visibility of Stantec by sharing our knowledge and innovation story through key client and industry engagements to enhance our reputation and drive revenue
Practice
- Collaborate with local and BC leadership to establish, nurture, and support cross-discipline project communication, and best practices
- Inspire, motivate, and hold team members accountable for project delivery, QAQC, discipline excellence and technical quality, documents quality and best practices in the execution of work
- Collaborate with the BC and local leaders to gather feedback and ensure that the integrated design process is delivering high quality results, making course corrections when necessary
- Collaborate with local area leadership, including Project Managers, to ensure the office meets its operation goals and adheres to the PM framework
- Commitment and leadership around a zero-safety incident culture
People Leadership
- Collaborate with BC Leaders for proper staffing of all projects including hiring, staff transitions, and labor sharing
- Support BC Leaders with developing, attracting, engaging, and retaining top talent
- Foster employee connectedness by interfacing frequently with employees
- Participate in regular office and BC wide meetings to communicate the vision, business strategy and progress
- Support the overall talent management including career development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching, and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development for the BC
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Experienced in developing, negotiating, and managing scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Proven success in developing new clients and maintaining strong client relationships, coordinating project pursuits and proposal preparation
- Experienced in developing, negotiating, and managing scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Proven business development and marketing experience in Texas
- Ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop a team of technical and professional staff.
- Understands and applies key business knowledge through research of capital improvement plans, funding mechanisms, strategic direction, and client needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to small and large groups with expertise.
- Ability to resolve complex problems using effective and creative approaches.
- Exercises independent judgement, takes initiative, and expertly prioritizes activities to drive programs to success.
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field
- TX PE license or the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months of employment.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in business development, project management and/or engineering
- TxDOT Precertification or the ability to obtain TxDOT Precertification.
- Hybrid working environment.
- Travel in Texas will be required.
