Transport Designer
About the role
Our Transport Planning and Advisory team partners with its clients to provide traffic and transport solutions for the community and we currently seek a Transport Designer to join our team based in Melbourne. You will be working as part of a dedicated transport team on a range of projects and will be responsible for providing accurate and efficient transport design services as well as collaborating with a range of other engineering disciplines.
Day to day tasks would involve:
Undertake site inspections and gather base information on road environment, traffic and road safety observation, parking inventories and facilities etc.
Prepare transport design plans including concept, functional layouts, swept path assessments, line marking and signage and traffic signal design.
Design projects will include a wide range of scenarios, including car park design, site access and internal road network design, intersection design, loading dock facilities, active travel, public transport infrastructure, local area traffic management and construction traffic management etc.
Familiarity with relevant design standards and requirements for horizontal (2D) alignments
Prepare fee proposals, design reports and other design related documentation.
Liaise with clients, project teams and authorities to progress design projects.
Collaborate with the Transport Design team as well as other internal engineering disciplines.
To be successful for this role you'll need:
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline
2 - 5 years’ experience working within a traffic and transport design or engineering capacity and familiarity with appropriate CAD software such as Microstation.
Experience of working in a consulting environment or for local/ state government in a similar role.
A good working knowledge of best practice standards, guidelines, current trends and legislation in order to deliver innovative and practical traffic and transport design solutions.
Excellent communication skills to strongly, confidently and succinctly present traffic and transport issues and results of design outcomes to a wide audience.
