Your Opportunity
Stantec is looking for a Transportation Planner / Traffic Engineer with minimum of 10 years of transportation engineering or planning experience and a minimum of 5 years of project management experience to join our multidisciplinary team based in the US in our New York City office. We believe training, collaboration, and connections are strengthened by working alongside team members. This is a hybrid position with at least three days/week in the office recommended.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Leading transportation planning studies, traffic impact studies, traffic operations analysis, crash analyses, and speed studies.
- Leading TPTE portions of Environmental Impact Assessments and Planning and Environmental Linkages studies in coordination with other disciplines.
- Designing traffic data collection programs and directing traffic data analysis.
- Participating in iterative roadway design processes in coordination with roadway and structural engineers.
- Performing QA/QC checks on project deliverables in accordance with internal guidelines.
- Manage project finances in accordance with internal audit guidelines.
- Coordination with clients on project needs, schedule, technical issues, information requests, and invoicing.
- Presenting at public outreach meetings and coordinating visual communication of technical concepts for public consumption.
- Supporting microsimulation modeling and mesoscopic modeling efforts by coordinating data needs and integrating results into final recommendations.
- Writing technical memoranda and reports.
- Review RFP documents to discern scope and submission requirements.
- Supporting business development activities including proposal writing and presenting at project interviews.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong understanding of TPTE principles and best practices.
- Familiarity with TPTE standards, codes, and requirements in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey preferred.
- Experience with National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) studies, guidelines, and requirements.
- Proficiency with traffic analysis tools like Synchro and HCS.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to interpret technical findings and share them with general audiences.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Ability to lead large interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience with VISSIM, ArcGIS, or Adobe Illustrator is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) including presenting technical concepts to the public.
- Ability to work on multiple assignments concurrently.
- Strong familiarity with standard business software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, City and Regional Planning, Operations Research, or related discipline.
- Professional Engineers License (PE), preferably in NY, NJ, or CT.
- Minimum of 10 years of work experience in transportation engineering or planning.
- PTOE and/or RSP certifications preferred.
