Your Opportunity
Our Transportation group provides comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services for all phases of bridge, rail, roadway, and transit projects. Our Red Deer, Alberta office is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer-in-Training who will provide technical design services for our Roadway team. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can work in a team environment and wants to be involved in exciting local, regional, national, and international projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
- With guidance, perform geometric design and 3D modeling on a variety of roadway projects in both urban and rural environments
- Support the development of design plans and assist with preparation of technical specifications and quantity estimates as required
- Assist with the preparation of engineering reports and technical studies, including basic calculations
- Coordinate with other disciplines including structural, geotechnical, stormwater and streetlighting to ensure interdisciplinary design integration
- Follow applicable standards, quality assurance and quality control procedures during the design process
- Work to meet project timelines and budgets
- Additional duties may include assisting with project coordination, project pursuits and proposal preparation
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a team environment
- Basic understanding of general civil design concepts in relevant areas
- Basic understanding of modelling software and knowledge of calculations performed by the software or software savvy with aspirations to develop 3D modeling skillset
- Knowledge of modelling software such as Civil3D, Infraworks or OpenRoads considered to be an asset
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs including word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Knowledge of traffic modeling software such as Synchro or VISSIM considered an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy
- Team player with a positive attitude
Education and Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field)
- 0 – 4 years of industry experience
- Registered as an EIT in the Province of Alberta or ability to obtain within the next 6 months
Position will primarily work in an office setting but may require some field work.
