Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a creative, capable, and motivated junior transportation planner to support its Urban Places Mobility Group in Boston. The selected candidate will support the group’s growing local and national practice and work directly with industry-leading multimodal transportation planners across North America. Candidates must be willing to travel and ideally have a valid driver’s license. The preferred candidate will possess excellent writing, numerical and critical thinking skills, have fundamental experience with GIS and Adobe Suite, with an added benefit of some graphic design experience. Above all, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and curious, have a friendly, outgoing demeanor, and be able to multitask in a fast-moving environment.

 

Your Key Responsibilities

The role of the Entry-Level Transportation Planner will be to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team on transportation projects of various sizes and complexity. The candidate should have a working understanding of multimodal transportation processes, analysis, and methodology. The successful candidate should have a range of skills, as work will regularly include the following tasks in support of the range of projects described above:

  • Conducting research and providing summaries of findings
  • Data collection and documenting observations in the field
  • A working knowledge of US Census Data and the American Community Survey, as well as other publicly available demographic, transit, bicycle, and transportation databases
  • Working with and analyzing large datasets using spreadsheets (Excel, R, etc.)
  • GIS analysis and mapping/cartography
  • Preparation of PowerPoint slides and digital or physical presentation materials
  • Development of graphics using Adobe Illustrator
  • Attending client and public meetings
  • Preparation of business development materials
  • Report writing and production in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign
  • Administrative and organizational work

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent skills in research, data analysis, and problem solving
  • Strong communications skills--verbal, written, and visual
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with the production of planning reports and documents
  • Experience with GIS map production, data analysis, and data management (ArcMap/ArcPro is desirable)
  • A thorough knowledge and/or familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) is desirable
  • Additional experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD or Synchro will be considered favorably
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated responsibility, maturity, and commitment to a team driven environment
  • The ability to be based in Boston, for in-person work at least 4 days a week
  • Willingness to travel as needed

Education and Experience

  • A degree (preferably graduate) in Transportation, Urban Design, Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, or a related field with at least 1 years of relevant work or intern experience
