If you are in your second or third year of study at university studying engineering, engineering science, mathematics, statistics or related qualifications then we want you to apply for an internship with Stantec. Scope of work
This internship with the Nelson Transportation Team offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the investigation, design and construction of transportation infrastructure projects while working alongside a supportive and motivated team. Although sitting within the transport team there will be opportunities to gain experience across other disciplines and get involved with wider office initiatives.
Typical tasks for these projects could include:
- Utilise industry-standard software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D to create and modify engineering plans in a digital format.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports and other essential engineering documentation.
- Participate in meetings and discussions with clients and contractors to facilitate effective project coordination.
- Conduct site visits to observe and monitor construction activities, providing valuable insights for ongoing design projects.
- Assist in ensuring quality assurance during the construction phase of infrastructure projects.
- Assist with business development through client research and assisting with client plans.
- Gain exposure to project management.
Additionally, you will have opportunities to support other disciplines within the Stantec Nelson Team, which could include water, structural, geotechnical and community development. Collaboration across disciplines is encouraged on various projects, providing a well-rounded learning experience.
This role will allow you to develop further understanding of the engineering sector and the role of an engineering consultant. It offers valuable exposure to real-world projects, enabling you to enhance your technical skills and gain insight into the multifaceted nature of the transport and water industry.

Who can apply
