Scope of work 

This internship with the Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch Buildings team offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the projects while working alongside a supportive and motivated team. 

As an undergraduate Mechanical Engineer at Stantec, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of exciting building services projects across various sectors, including healthcare, commercial, residential, and mission-critical infrastructure. You will join a vibrant and diverse team, collaborating on innovative projects and contributing to high-impact developments across New Zealand.

We will show you the project lifecycle, from concept design to construction and commissioning. You’ll gain hands-on experience in mechanical systems design, from HVAC and energy efficiency to critical infrastructure and sustainability solutions. This is a fantastic opportunity to wor on projects with wide ranging clients, from local government bodies and private developers to large-scale, mission-critical facilities.

This role will allow you to get a snapshot of the buildings engineering sector and the role of an engineering consultant. It offers valuable exposure to real-world projects, enabling you to enhance your technical skills and gain insight into the multifaceted nature of the buildings industry.

 Who can apply 

To be eligible to apply you must: 

  • Be in your second or third year of study

  • Preferably have a full clean current driving licence 

  • Able to commence work from 23rd November 2026 to 12th February 2027
