Urban Planner
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills
- Strong writing, organizational, and time management skills.
- Understanding of the various land use planning frameworks throughout Atlantic Canada and common development application types.
- Developing knowledge of economic and legal considerations in land use regulations, development forms, and environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated skill preparing visual communication materials such as figures, sketches, renderings, plans, and presentation materials.
- Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
- Working knowledge of legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
- Experience with relevant drafting/design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and AutoCAD. ArcGIS may be considered an asset.
- Fluency using computer and smartphone platforms for a range of business applications (Microsoft Office, Teams, online data portals and apps).
- The ability to work in both English and French may be considered an asset.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture/Design or related field. A Master’s degree will be considered an asset. Candidates must have a minimum of one- year of planning experience in either the public and/or private sector. Eligibility to become a full member in one of the Atlantic Canada planning associations.
Typical office environment working with computers. Remote and hybrid working arrangements may be considered. Some travel and work outside of regular business hours may be required (such as delivering plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings or public events). May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
