About the role

As a cadet, you'll work towards a sought-after qualification in civil engineering.  You'll develop skills through practical experience in design and drafting with a view to becoming skilled in these areas as your career progresses. 

In this role, you will assist in the development and delivery of civil and transport infrastructure projects across Australia. The role will provide you exposure to various activities, including performing drafting and design to produce high quality civil engineering designs, drawings, 3D models and documentation.

Working as part of the team, with guidance from our senior engineers and support from our specialist engineering designers and technical leads, you will ensure that all projects are completed in accordance with relevant standards, specifications, and drawings. Your role is crucial in delivering high-quality outcomes to our clients, requiring a sound knowledge of civil engineering and construction processes, with the support of our senior engineers. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of social and professional engineers to deliver great projects.

Day to day tasks would involve:

Assist in the delivery of detailed design infrastructure work packages relating to land development, civil, transport and sports infrastructure.

  • Undertake design and drafting duties using a range of software programs, including AutoCAD,
  • Ensure efficient transfer of design into drawings through application of 3D Modelling, and civil and structural design detailing, in accordance with supplier information, industry standards and Stantec and Client CAD standards.
  • Produce calculations, specifications and drawings while ensuring that technical designs meet the agreed basis of design.
  • Obtain existing infrastructure information using GIS, Dial Before You Dig, as-constructed drawings and reports, and other relevant software programs and tools.
  • Follow the guidance and instruction of Senior Designers and Engineers while endeavouring to learn company and standard / accepted practices and methods.

To be successful for this role you'll need: 

  • Associate degree (or Advanced Diploma) in Civil Engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of or willingness to learn Civil3D, Revit and 12D, in order to deliver a high level of technical service to internal and external clients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, standards and guidelines.
  • Strong technical expertise and ability to produce accurate design documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proven experience in time management and organisational skills including the ability to manage resources and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Ongoing commitment to professional development through self-study, training and seminars, and maintaining your Continual Professional Development (CPD)
