About the role

We are seeking a Civil Drafter to join our Community Development team in Canberra. Reporting to the Civil Team Lead, you will work on projects delivering solutions in Transport, urban, land and subdivision projects within Canberra and surrounds. The role will suit an experienced Civil Drafter who has worked on multi-disciplined civil projects for Councils, Local government, Main Roads, or developers. As a Civil Drafter, you will provide accurate and efficient design services for the Business Unit in accordance with project times and budgets, and without detailed supervision. 

Working as part of the team, with guidance from our senior engineers and support from our specialist engineering designers and technical leads, you will ensure that all projects are completed in accordance with relevant standards, specifications, and drawings. Your role is crucial in delivering high-quality outcomes to our clients, requiring a sound knowledge of civil engineering and construction processes. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of social and professional engineers to deliver great projects.

Day to day tasks would involve: 

  • Complete drawings / designs using standard methods and techniques. (ACT MIS, AustRoads, TfNSW spec and Relevant Council standards)
  • Complete drafting documentation in accordance with compliant procedures
  • Work from rough sketches and specifications created by engineers
  • Operate CAD or Civil 3D, and other drafting/design computer programs
  • Deliver project outcomes within client specifications and expectations
  • Ensure drawings comply with design/drafting checklists and are peer reviewed

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Aided Design or relevant experience 
  • Minimum of 2 years of design experience in an engineering consultancy as a civil drafter
  • Familiarity with local authority and state government approval and regulatory requirement
  • Experience in the operation of software design tools such as AutoCAD packages and/or MicroStation 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for detail and a strong focus on the production of quality outputs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ongoing commitment to professional development through self-study, training and seminars, and maintaining your Continual Professional Development (CPD)
