Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a qualified, energetic, self-motivated, and resourceful Ecologist to support our Natural Resource group as a Field Lead. Grow your career with a leading environmental consulting firm serving a wide variety of private, federal, state, and local government clients in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, and the surrounding region.
Your role will be to perform field work including species surveys, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, compliance monitoring, inspections, and technical support services. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Support data collection efforts for wetland delineations and wetland functional/conditional assessments under applicable agency regulations
- Conduct vegetation inventories and monitoring
- Complete wildlife surveys and habitat assessments for listed species (migratory birds and threatened/endangered species)
- Lead and work alongside field teams
- Record, enter, organize, and analyze ecological/environmental data
- Prepare report documentation and supporting materials for client and regulatory agency submittals
- Complete tasks with consideration for your own and the team's safety
- Travel to projects to perform field assessments throughout Stantec’s service area
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Interest in ecosystems, natural resource conservation/restoration, and the outdoors is essential
- Able to solve problems using critical thinking
- Working knowledge of Texas and southeastern United States vegetation and species
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient MS Office skills
- Comprehensive note-taking skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high work ethic
- Proven field skills including the ability to navigate in difficult terrain using aerial maps
- Familiarity with GPS data collection within a broad range of ecological communities and environmental regulatory frameworks
- Consulting experience is preferred
- Possesses a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- Willing and able to travel and conduct fieldwork in remote areas (50-75% of the time), including overnight travel
- Able to lift and move items and equipment
- Certified Wetland Delineator is a plus
- Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in wildlife biology, rangeland ecology, environmental science, forestry, botany, soil science, or a closely related natural resource field
Three of more years of related experience
This position works in both field and office settings. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather, remote locations, summer heat, rough terrain, and wildlife; as well as bending, stooping, carrying field equipment, standing, and walking for extended periods, and making visual and tactile distinctions using color, texture, moisture content, depth, and distance.
