Our Water Division is experiencing significant growth, presenting the opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our vibrant and professional team based in our Melbourne office. This position is crucial for providing technical expertise and guiding technical teams to develop and deliver the most appropriate technical solution for key water and wastewater projects.

About the role:

In this role, you’ll lead the delivery of civil engineering projects within the water infrastructure space, ensuring outcomes meet client expectations, regulatory requirements, and project timelines. You’ll contribute to the financial success of the business by scoping and budgeting projects, supporting proposals, and guiding technical execution.

Working across multidisciplinary teams, you’ll drive collaboration, manage project coordination, and apply advanced engineering expertise to solve complex challenges. Your work will help shape sustainable infrastructure across Victoria, with a focus on innovation, quality, and community impact.

A day in the life of a Principal Mechanical Engineer looks like:

·       Deliver advanced mechanical engineering designs across drawings, reports, presentations, and regulatory submissions with minimal supervision.

·       Lead coordination meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and vendors to align project specifications and ensure smooth delivery.

·       Tackle technically complex projects and act as a go-to technical resource for the wider team.

·       Apply knowledge of Western Australia’s market and Water Corporation design standards; contribute to the development of new mechanical design standards and specifications.

·       Mentor junior staff and support their professional growth within a collaborative team environment.

·       Opportunity to supervise project resources, manage budgets, and influence delivery timelines in collaboration with Project Managers.

To be successful for this role you'll present:

·       A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering.

·       Minimum 8 years working experience in consulting field and/or recognised as a Principal Engineer in your current role.

·       Experience working in the local Victorian market would be an advantage

·       In depth knowledge of the Water Corp design standards, previous project examples would be favourable

·       Bring your Chartered Engineer (CPEng) credentials to lead technically complex projects and mentor junior engineers.

·       Beneficial to have water industry knowledge and experience in surge analysis.

·       Strong technical expertise and ability to produce accurate design documentation.

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·       Proven experience in time management and organisational skills including the ability to manage resources and delegate tasks effectively.

·       Ongoing commitment to professional development through self-study, training and seminars, and maintaining your Continual Professional Development (CPD)

 

Additional experience in project management and construction phase services would also be highly desirable.
