Your Opportunity
Our Substation group is looking for experienced Substation Engineers to be aligned with a Stantec office anywhere in North America.
As an experienced Substation Engineer, you'll be at the heart of the action delivering power solutions for our clients. We are looking for someone with the potential to be a future leader in our group. Your Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery
- Engineer HV substation projects from conceptual design through construction.
- Prepare reports that present technical and project information in a clear and concise manner to meet client requirements.
- Prepare electrical physical design packages consisting of One-line, Site Plan, Electrical Plan & Sections, Grounding Plan & Details, Conduit Plan and Details, Control House Plan, Control House Grounding Plan & Details, Lighting Plan, Lightning Protection Plan, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Coordinate with Designers and Engineers of other disciplines to complete deliverables.
- Interpret and incorporate vendor information into design deliverables.
- Performa QA/QC of electrical engineering design packages.
- Provide regular progress updates and reporting on project deliverables.
- Provide engineering and technical support, and reviews to field crews during construction.
- Responsible for proposal development and LOE (Level of Effort) analyses.
- Development of project estimates.
- Business Development
- Contribute to winning strategies, successful project execution and be involved at a hands-on level in key pursuits.
- Increase visibility of Stantec by sharing our knowledge and innovation story through key client engagements to enhance our reputation and drive revenue.
- Contribute to the maintenance and monitoring of the opportunity pipeline to optimize business development plans and employee utilization rates.
- Ensure local marketplace reputation through established relationships, attending industry events and social media sharing.
Mentorship

- Support, guide, and counsel on technical topics as a subject matter expert.
- Advise, advocate and be an ally for junior colleagues and EITs to help them reach their potential.
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
- Proficient in various areas of substation engineering such as civil, structural, P&C, and Studies.
- Strong understanding of substation grounding, lightning protection and illumination studies.
- Ability to visualize and evaluate equipment details, phase-to-ground, phase-to-phase clearances, and drawing relationships.
- Knowledge of industry specifications for HV electrical equipment.
- Familiar with international and North American electrical codes and regulations.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with multi-discipline teams to deliver projects on time and on budget.
Additional capabilities beneficial for the role:
- Understanding of Power Systems analysis and related software packages (e.g. ETAP, SKM, PSSE, CYME, CYMDIST, CYMCAP, PSCAD, EMTP, EasyPower, etc.)
- Experience with grounding analysis software such as WinIGS, and CDEGS.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of Canadian utility standards and design practices.
Education and Experience
- Electrical, Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng or PE) registered with any North American Engineering Association.
- Minimum 10 years of substation design and engineering experience within utilities, EPC and/or consulting organizations.
Typical office environment working with computers; Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home).
