Your Opportunity

As a Water Resources Engineer, you will participate in the development and preparation of engineering data in support of various water resources and environmental engineering projects. You will work under limited supervision of senior engineers, and as a team member of project managers, water resource engineers, GIS analysts and environmental scientists.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic surface water modeling with 1D and 2D HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-SSP, USGS tools, and others in support of flood risk studies, stormwater management design, flood mitigation design, and other water resources projects as needed.
  • Stormwater management, drainage, and erosion & sediment control analysis and design tasks for transportation and environmental projects, including closed/open drainage systems, environmental site design, ponds, stream restoration, flood studies, and E&SC controls.
  • Prepare complete submission packages, supporting calculations, cost estimates, project schedules, and other duties; effectively facilitate the agency review/approval process.
  • Process construction permits through local permitting agencies.
  • Support Stantec’s FEMA Flood Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk MAP) projects or similar flood study projects.
  • Support development of Conditional Letters of Map Revisions (CLOMRs), Letters of Map Revision (LOMRs), and No-Rise Analyses.
  • Work on multiple projects and be responsible for projects of average complexity/size.
  • May serve as Engineer-of-Record (EOR) on project tasks.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in client project requirement.
  • Collaborate with other team members while working on projects; complete tasks and delegate specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
  • Perform quality reviews of other engineers’ work.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient with engineering software programs, which including TR-55, TR-20, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM/XPSWMM (or other modeling software).
  • Proficient with ArcGIS.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley CAD programs including MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, and ProjectWise.
  • Experience related to storm water management, Low Impact Development (LID) or ecosystem restoration design and/or watershed assessments.
  • Possesses excellent time management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with project managers, senior engineers, and coworkers.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Possesses team leadership skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and interview skills are a plus.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to acquire Licensure within 12-months of hire.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in water resources design and analysis for a professional engineering firm.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree.
  • Familiarity with plan approval and permitting in Montgomery County, Prince Georges County, and/or the District of Columbia.
  • FEMA Risk MAP program experience.
  • In depth understanding of FEMA floodplain studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis (1D & 2D modeling), and storm water management.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
